How do I write a competency demonstration report for telecom engineers migrating to Australia?

The CDR or the Competency Development Report highlights your educational and professional journey in the field of engineering that you pursued. It lets assessors analyze the level of competence, demonstrated during various occasions and opportunities. Sections like Career Episode allow them a view of such events wherein you successfully dealt with challenges; demonstrating functional knowledge and skills. A CDR also gives the EA (Engineers Australia) assessors’ an insight into your personal abilities. Leadership skills, teamwork, ability to deal with dynamic scenarios, problem-solving, language skills, and writing abilities; are only some of these. Not limited to this, a CDR also provides a quick view into the initiatives taken to stay updated on new research, events, and happenings, relevant to the concerned domain. You will have to share details about attending relevant workshops, seminars, writing research paper, and the likes.
So, irrespective of the engineering domain you belong to, it is imperative to begin your migration procedure upon a comprehensive read of the EA MSA (Migration Skill Assessment) Booklet. This can be your guiding light and provide you relevant ideas about the kind of information desired in a CDR, in great details.
Since your CDR will showcase the technical acumen you boast about, it is very important that you chose relevant topics for your Career Episodes.
Here’s a sample report for you: Telecommunications Engineer CDR Report Sample
Career Episodes, are essays that are about 1000-2500 words long, written in the first person, and talk about a distinct aspect of your engineering experience. For instance, being a Telecom Engineer, you might want to detail about “Network Engineer Web-Based Viewer”, which was a project handled by you, during your stint with a certain organization. You will detail out the project and specific contributions from your end, roles and responsibilities, and outcomes. You could share details around the competencies demonstrated and how all of it aligns with the occupational categories highlighted by the EA. Every one of the three Career Episodes demands details of such professional events, wherein you can showcase the application of relevant engineering knowledge and skills (pertaining the chosen engineering field).
As a Telecom Engineer, your Summary Statement needs to focus on specific areas of the three Career Episodes which display relevant competencies pertaining the domain. You need to ensure that the highlighted competencies are what the EA desires in its competency issues, for the concerned ANZSCO code.
With your CPD (Continuous Professional Development), you could elaborate on the initiatives towards regular learning. Speak about how you keep yourselves updated with latest developments in the Telecom Engineering domain. Here, you could speak about any workshops you completed, seminars you were a part of or some relevant groups that you have joined. You need to put everything clearly, in a tabular format. You can also highlight relevant journals or manuals you subscribe to stay updated. For instance, you can highlight that you subscribe to the “International Journal of Communication Networks and Information Security (IJCNIS)”. Of course, this needs to be true and validated.
So, this is how you can bring about a high-quality CDR report. You can also take complete CDR assistance or ask for a review by CDRReport. Our expert CDR writers come from different engineering backgrounds and are in line with essential EA requirements around the same. They have a stronghold of Australian English and can turn around the most high-quality CDR reports within the desired timelines, at the most affordable charges.

Can the same CDR topic be used for a skills assessment through Engineers Australia?

Using similar or precisely the same CDR topics as anyone else’s can of course happen. But that doesn’t mean a perfect copy of their content, or for that matter even a percentage of plagiarism isn’t allowed. Engineers Australia, the assessing authority for your CDR, has stringent norms against plagiarism and there is no leniency in this context. Rejection due to plagiarized content can actually lead to a 12 month ban towards your next visa application.
On the contrary, taking inspiration for a topic from someone else’s CDR isn’t going to take away the uniqueness out of your CDR, since the experiences and learnings would be yours. All of it will still showcase your personal journey through various professional scenarios. Scenarios, wherein you were able to demonstrate different levels of the desired competencies. So try and use the opportunity to showcase what you have got concerning the functional role applied for.
For instructions and details on the approach to write a CDR, refer the Migration Skills Assessment (MSA) booklet as released by the Engineers Australia.
On the contrary,
If you meant to ask that whether you can chose the same topic/project across the three Career Episodes that you write, it’s a strict no. As suggested, if you read through the guidelines in the MSA booklet, you will understand that every Career Episode provides you a unique opportunity to showcase your engineering skills. Using the same topic across the three Career Episodes to showcase most of the desired competencies, will take away the level of experience you want to project. The assessors from Engineers Australia are looking for varied experiences and if you limit the same, it could be a total loss.
You need to go ahead and choose the three best projects you have worked upon. Preferably showing the different roles you played and those which represent categorical roles and responsibilities that you fulfilled. You can also chose to pick a real life scenario which helped you showcase your engineering skills and abilities.
Working on three different Career Episodes that perfectly showcase the expanse of experience isn’t an easy task. With regular home and work responsibilities, your ability to give your 100% might just falter.
However, you can reach out to the expert CDR writers at CDRReportsAustralia.com. With over 99% of positive CDR assessments in their kitty, the team offers a perfect gateway to successful skilled migration visa. From comprehensive assistance and review of the entire CDR, to aligning best possible projects for your Career Episodes, they offer all services.

Why was my CDR rejected by engineers in Australia?

There are some significant reason for the rejection of CDR-
1. When you compose Career Episodes, you do need to make reference to the numerical counts you did and how you did them, the product you utilized, the nature of designing difficulties you confronted yet then you ought to be careful with giving your story a chance to turn out to be excessively specialized. When you incorporate such a large number of graphs or photographs or tables, it winds up hard for the assessors to recognize competency components they are searching for. Ensure you just incorporate the subtleties EA requests and give only the uncovered important subtleties or determinations with respect to your job or your undertaking.
2. EA rules unmistakably indicate that each Career Episode ought to be written in an 'article' structure. Despite the fact that you need to number the CE sections, be careful about utilizing visual cues. Your Career Episodes ought to obviously have an Introduction, your primary Engineering movement you set out to portray, and a Summary. The content should cover whatever number of the competency components referenced in the Summary Statement group as could reasonably be expected. Much the same as an 'article', attempt to abstain from utilizing 'visual cues' in your CE.
3. The recommended length of the Career Episode is 1,000 to 2,500 words. Attempt to regard the proposed word limit however incorporate every one of the subtleties EA has requested. We prescribe you to peruse the EA rules and ANZSCO Code depictions first and afterward, choose which parts of your profession development can characterize the specific capabilities. At that point, set up your article draft. Alter out all the important subtleties and underline the parts that unequivocally feature the abilities you have. Alter and edit your CE, run it through some great quality counterfeiting checking programming, and after that run the exposition through experienced CDR commentators who can reveal to you how to improve your article.
4. Never reorder task subtleties from other individuals' CDR or from Internet sources. The CDR tests accessible online are just for reference. Peruse them and attempt to fish out for comparable subtleties from your very own profession and scholarly subtleties. The CDR EA is intended to be composed by you – and offer a look into 'your' profession experience and development.
5. Do not discuss one anticipate in two profession scenes. Devote one Career Episode to only one anticipate you have done or one part of building you need to feature. For instance, you may compose your first Career Episode on the venture you did while you were examining, pick the second Career Episode theme for the activities you took care of in your first employment, and pick the third Career Episode from the later period or your Career. Or on the other hand you can compose two Career Episodes on the activities you did while you were still in Engineering College and devote just a single CE to your on-professional training.
6. The MSA booklet explicitly makes reference to that you should utilize first individual particular articulations in your Career Episode. When you notice about gathering exercises or collaboration, you lose center around your particular job in the task. Discussion about 'I did… ' rather than what 'We did… ' Some of the manners by which you can begin your sentences are 'I arranged', 'I planned', 'I recorded', 'I set i up', 'estimated', 'I distinguished', 'I assessed' and so forth.
7. Ideally, you ought to compose your vocation scenes in right Australian English, which is fundamentally the same as British English. In the event that you do compose your Career Episodes in your very own language, remember to incorporate astounding interpretation for them in your CDR report. Commonly, EA probably won't most likely evaluate your CDR report since they are just not ready to get it.
8. When you present your CDR report to the EA, recollect that you are presenting an official record which is intended to be composed by an expert. You should focus on its arranging, rightness of its spellings and language structure, and the progression of sentences in your CEs.
9. Be certain to incorporate issue articulations in your CEs and notice the means you took to comprehend them. The venture subtleties you were associated with and what precisely you did in the task should shape the essence of your Career Episode.
10. Design exercises are given high weightage in CDR evaluation. Absence of structuring knowledge might be a hindrance to your CDR getting surveyed emphatically. Thus, attempt to fish out with any innovative building or mechanical experience you have and make a point to feature in any event two of your Career Episodes. You can converse with our specialists to talk about what you can incorporate as 'structure movement' in your CDR.
11. The definite shot approach to get your CDR rejected is to duplicate substance (or part of substance) from the Internet sources or a CDR that has just been submitted to the Engineers Australia (EA). Purposefully or unexpectedly, individuals will in general duplicate their Career Episodes or thoughts from a CDR test that they go over. EA has complex programming frameworks to get every single such occurrence of written falsification. Any deceptive and false data is additionally observed as a noteworthy break of morals with respect to the hopeful and may mean negative appraisal of his or her CDR.

It may additionally include:Objectives of the Project,Name of the Company and its Location,Background of the Company,Your Career Stage (you have been reading at the time, or changed into it your first task, or had been you in a center-control position at the time of CE you selected)Duration of the Project, andYour Position in the Project Hierarchy (which you might display thru an Organogram).
  2. Read through the ANZSCO Code of your engineering discipline in detail and cover all (or as many as possible) of the responsibilities or tasks it mentions.
In each of the CEs, try to include five or six of the above-mentioned tasks – which you can later refer to in the Summary Statement.
Do read the Engineers Australia guidelines carefully and number the paragraphs of the Career Episodes as mentioned there – so that you can refer to them when you write your Summary Statement. Use the first person and active voice only when you write your Career Episodes.
  1. Remember the purpose of submitting a CDR. The EA assessor wants to see what engineering or technical problems you faced and what solutions you came up with. Try to keep the problems relevant to your engineering discipline tasks as mentioned with the ANZSCO codes.
  2. Design components carry high weightage in EA assessment. Try to mention at least two designs you have worked on and mention all the details associated with them.
  3. Keep track of engineering or technical calculations you performed during your project, their results and outcomes, and the process you used for them. Include all these details in your Career Episodes and refer to them in the Summary Statement.

In the Career Episodes, showcase the documentation work or literature review you did or presentations you gave to clients or other stakeholders of the project. This shows how committed you are to your profession.
  6. Any innovations, dealing with other team members and/or clients, and valuing team work and capabilities to lead the team are some of the personality traits EA looks for in a potential Visa 189 candidate. If you can show how much your company saved money because of your negotiations or innovations, EA is bound to give you some brownie points for it.
  7. In one or more of your Career Episodes, do mention how you handled environment, health and safety related ruled and regulations. Any social activity or in-company measures that you undertook to comply with environment or safety-related standards and avoid health-related risks can be mentioned here.
  8. Do not forget to mention your professional achievements at the end of your Career Episodes. These can include the Project Outputs, Recognition you received for your work, and the Goals or Targets you met.
Remember that EA only looks for facts and details. Do not try to fib when it comes to your CDR report. You must be able to prove any claims that you include in your CDR – even if it is loosely related to it. Also, do not copy from others. Introspect well and you should be able to come up with a winning CDR for EA in due time.
Here are Some Tips for CDR Report writing from our experts that can help you qualify on EA parameters:
1. Read the EA guidelines carefully – until you understand them thoroughly. There are three vital elements of the CDR Reports Australia:
a. List of Continuous Professional Development (CPD),
b. Three Career Episodes, and
c. Summary Statement.
Each of these elements serves a specific purpose and have a clearly specified format. Once you understand what you need to showcase in each of them, writing an impressive CDR report for Engineers Australia becomes much easier.
You can check out a CDR Australia sample to see the exact format in which you have to write your engineering competency report.
2. Many engineers do not pay much attention to their language skills. This can backfire when it comes to CDR Australia. Use only the Australian English in the CDR Report Australia. So, take special care in your choice of words, spellings you use, and your writing style. Here’s a quick tip: Australian English is quite similar to British English.
3. A CDR for Australia Immigration must include all the competencies published in the MSA Engineers Australia booklet. The MSA or Migration Skills Assessment booklet defines in detail all the skills, knowledge, and competencies that are expected from engineers and technicians applying in different occupation categories.
These occupation categories (Engineering Associate, Engineering Technologist, Professional Engineer, and Engineering Manager) have been classified on the basis of work experience applicants have and the roles they have played in their fields till now.
One should choose the topic or theme of their Career Episodes in such a manner that the events you include in them can demonstrate that you have the characteristics and traits EA is looking for.
4. Engineers Australia assessment focuses on you and your achievements rather than your company and your company’s glories. Hence, CDR writing Australia service providers often skip over extraneous details about your company’s history, market share, and profit and loss accounts. They only focus on what you (and not your team) has done for the company as an individual.
The rewards and recognitions you have received can be highlighted in the Career Episodes. However, make sure that you are not fibbing. You should be able to produce proofs to substantiate all your claims – even if they are circumstantial proofs. In Australia, lying and cheating is strictly looked down upon – and is a sure-shot way to get your CDR rejected.
5. If you read through the CDR Engineers Australia guidelines and the CDR Engineers Australia sample carefully, you will realise that each paragraph of the Three Career Episodes have need to be penned carefully. In the Summary Statement, you need to reference the paragraph in which you mention a particular competency element.
Remember, most CDR Australia assessors read the Summary Statement first. They use it as a ‘reference point’ to gleam through your Career Episodes and decide whether you have a particular competency or not.
The Summary Statement is often the face of your CDR. It also showcases your comprehension and analysis skills. So, be careful that you reference your paragraphs correctly here.
6. Engineers Australia CDR Help providers most emphatically advise that you should always write Career Episodes in the ‘first person’ and using ‘active voice’.
Some of the great sentence openers in your Career Episodes can be ‘I found’, ‘I planned’, ‘I measured’, ‘I designed’, ‘I analysed’ etc. Stick to the specific facts and details about your engineering experience and focus on the competencies you used as an ‘engineer’ to complete a certain project.
7. In most cases, you will find that the CDR Engineers Australia rejected had plagiarism. You should only use CDR samples available online or elsewhere as references. You should never ‘copy-paste’ them or try to steal ideas from them. If you are not sure where to begin writing, seek help from a trusted CDR services provider. But never ever steal!

There is one more thing to note. Plagiarism may occur accidentally too. Sometimes, certain sentences or group of words remain stuck in your mind and you use them subconsciously To avoid such mishaps, we suggest you to run your CDR through a trustworthy plagiarism checking software before you submit it to the EA.
